….is lovely and beautiful and intriguing and a sign that this flick will absolutely tank at the box office. Right?
I mean, look: This is basically The Fountain crossed with Southland Tales and a dash of Dark City and/or V for Vendetta, right? But those are all exceedingly messy films that mainstream audiences tend to avoid due to their challenging structures and the difficulty studios have marketing them. I’m excited for this flick if only because it fits nicely into that semi-pseudo-genre of “interesting cinema.” I just don’t know how many other people will be.

The book was very good. I didn’t see how the complicated literary structure could possibly work as a movie. But this makes me think that perhaps they pulled it off.
